A duo of limited-edition single malts, The Lakes Distillery's Apex Collection offers whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to discover something 'truly extraordinary'.
Inspired by the complexity of a seemingly insurmountable challenge, Apex is a story of progress for The Lakes. Designed with the art of élevage - a technique traditionally associated with fine wines and cognacs and a rarity in the world of whisky-making - Velocity and Revolución are described as a ‘voyage into an uncharted world of flavour’ and look destined to become a coveted treasure among collectors and aficionados alike.
The Apex Collection, Velocity
Drawing inspiration from the luxury of time, Velocity is deeply rooted in the notion that every moment holds infinite value. Aiming to turn the art of whisky flavour creation on its head by accelerating the speed at which spirit, wood and air appear to interact, Velocity reveals how age is just one of many variables that influence the quality of whisky.
Designed with élevage and a collection of rare Oloroso casks, Velocity reveals a new style to The Lakes Single Malt. Defying its age, it outshines in the quest to create a classic sherry-matured single malt with flavour and complexity way beyond its years.
Berry Bros. & Rudd’s spirits buyer, Rob Whitehead, hailed Velocity as "a pivotal piece in any serious collection" and a single malt whisky where “future whisky lovers will marvel enviously at the stories of those who drank it.”
In a partnership that reflects their shared dedication to offering only the finest spirits to discerning consumers, all 583 individually numbered bottles of Velocity are available exclusively through Berry Bros. & Rudd from 7 May.
The Apex Collection, Revolución
Reminiscent of the rich and aromatic textures of resplendently aged rum, Revolución is a salute to what is possible when convention is questioned, and assumption removed.
With a penchant for rum’s robust characteristics, with Revolución The Lakes set out to design a single malt whisky with the same satisfyingly rich and aromatic textures of resplendently aged rum without the use of molasses or rum casks.
Using only the finest bespoke-made Oloroso and PX sherry casks, Revolución is an audaciously crafted single malt, overflowing with delectable rum-like flavours and fragrances.
Showing what can be achieved over time through the complexity of élevage, it offers smooth, round, sweet aromas of caramelised pecans, candied fruit cake and hints of crushed almonds, giving way to complex multi-layered notes of toasted muscovado sugar, lingering dried fruits and candied ginger.
The Apex Revolución is released on 18 May, World Whisky Day, with 702 individually numbered bottles available only from LakesDistillery.com and the distillery’s own on-site store.
