The Lakes Distillery Awarded Gold By Visit England

The Lakes Distillery is one of only 26 visitor experiences to be awarded Gold in the annual Visit England Visitor Attraction Accolades.

This year, covering 2020 and 2021, a total of 76 winners were recognised for providing an outstanding visitor experience, with only 26 – including the Lakes Distillery – earning the highest possible accolade, a Gold award.

Introduced in 2014, the visitor attraction accolades are available to members of the Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme who represent a wide range of tourism experiences across England.

Awards are based on scores given by a network of highly trained and experienced assessors, with the marking criteria including quality, accessibility, and sustainability on offer to visitors.

This year’s triumph means that The Lakes Distillery has now been Gold Certified since 2018:

We are delighted to have been recognised once again with the highest accolade in English tourism. During what has been a very challenging time, our team has continued to pull together and deliver a world-class experience, and this accolade is a fitting testament to their passion, commitment, and hard work. We’re incredibly proud of what they have achieved, and will continue to strive toward giving distillery visitors the best possible experience.

Nigel Mills, Co-founder and CEO, The Lakes Distillery.

Big-name attractions also given the highest award in English tourism include Tower Bridge Exhibition, Cadbury World and Alnwick Garden. Chester Zoo, Liverpool Cathedral and Shiverpool joined us as the only other North West-based attractions to receive the gold award.

I’m so pleased to see our visitor attractions back in the spotlight with these Accolades that recognise the amazing experiences available across the country. They also acknowledge the people who bring the attractions to life through their unparalleled customer service. They are the ones who make an attraction the most ‘welcoming’ and give life to the ‘Best Told Story’ whilst the quality of the attractions themselves are rewarded with ‘Quality Food and Drink’ and ‘Hidden Gem’ and of course ‘Gold’ for best all-rounders.

Andrew Stokes, Visit England Director.
