Celebrations as 2021’s Regional Icons of Whisky Awards are Announced | The Lakes Distillery Celebrations as 2021’s Regional Icons of Whisky Awards are Announced – The Lakes Distillery

Congratulations are in order for our whiskymaker, Dhavall Gandhi, who is now Whisky Magazine’s 2021 Master Distiller/Master Blender, Icon of Whisky for The Rest of the World.

From bartenders to brand ambassadors, retailers to visitor attraction managers, the 2021 Icons of Whisky awards honours those who have worked tirelessly for the growth of the industry.

The drinks industry has faced one of its most challenging years in recent history, which has completely altered the platform from which many are able to work, from in-person to virtual.

Where we usually would join together at the annual spirit judging events in London and hear about the nominees, Magazine editor Christopher Coates announced the winners via a live stream on Facebook and Youtube.

The Master Distiller/Master Blender, Icon of Whisky nominees are highly skilled individuals with more than 15 year’s experience in spirit production, they are responsible for all aspects of whisky production from the raw materials through to the final cask selection, blending and determining the house style. Most importantly they are responsible for maintaining the consistent quality of their products.

This week the regional presentations of the Icons of Whisky have been announced, showcasing the best of the best in terms of people, places and products covering everywhere in the World.

‘Rest of the World’ covers every region and country in the world, except China, India, Australia, Scotland, Ireland and the US.

From here, the winners for each of the regions will be reviewed and the Global Icons of Whisky will be announced in March, at the same time as the World Whisky Awards.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. We’re proud to be placed in honour next to Kavalan, Mackmyra, and Milk and Honey and also alongside many fantastic retailers including Booths, Master of Malt, Milroys of Soho and The Whisky Exchange.
